Thanks a lot! I have some spare time now, so expect more additions over the next couple of days. ;-)

Hey Deniz, I noticed you've started updating pages to their pre-rollback status, and was wondering just how many pages you had backups like that of. Thanks in advance! ディノ千?!? · ☎ Dinoguy1000 15:49, 5 December 2010 (EST)

Hi Phillip,

I'm basically already through with restoring. I only make local backups of format articles when I create or update them myself. As I had not edited the Wiki much since the rollback point, there's unfortunately not much more to be gained. I could probably recreate some toolset articles which were based on the readme files to my tools, but there are no exact backups for those, so I'll have to check them by hand.

Good to see the Wiki is back anyway!

Best wishes, Deniz Oezmen 16:00, 5 December 2010 (EST)

All right, thanks anyways. I could probably use Google caches for some pages, if I had any idea which ones were edited between the backup date and now. Personally, I'm rather surprised we weren't being mirrored by anyone else. ディノ千?!? · ☎ Dinoguy1000 16:09, 5 December 2010 (EST)
Yes, in this case the "decentralized backup" structure of the internet seems to have failed. Our info seems to be obscure enough to not be replicated. Another source for restoring might be the Web archive, there seem to be backups at least through mid-2008: [1] Deniz Oezmen 16:16, 5 December 2010 (EST)
Addendum: Starting points might be the articles linked from the "latest formats" list: [2], [3], [4], [5], [6], [7], though unfortunately the Archive doesn't seem to have captured the source of the articles.Deniz Oezmen 16:29, 5 December 2010 (EST)
I thought about Internet Archive, but it doesn't display anything from the past six months. In addition, for proper attribution, we need the names of all editors who contributed between the last edit here and IA's version. ディノ千?!? · ☎ Dinoguy1000 16:33, 5 December 2010 (EST)
Getting the list of contributors might be the hardest of all. Unfortunately, Google seems to have begun purging its caches as well. I don't see some of the sites that were still visible a few weeks ago. (On the other hand, it wouldn't be the first loss of attribution on this Wiki. The reorganisation in December 2005 cleared quite some contributor lists.) Deniz Oezmen 16:43, 5 December 2010 (EST)
The difference is, the contributors can still be found in the deleted page histories. At some point I plan to begin history merging all that stuff (well, not *all* of it, but there should be plenty of cases where it would be appropriate). ディノ千?!? · ☎ Dinoguy1000 17:08, 5 December 2010 (EST)
